Cristiano Ronaldo says there is ‘no finish line’ after penning contract extension with Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo says there is “no finish line” after penning a new deal with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

The football icon has doubled down in Saudi Arabia by signing a new two-year contract, extending his stay in the Pro League until June 2027.

The new agreement comes as his previous deal was set to expire on June 30. Ronaldo’s high-profile move from Manchester United to Al Nassr in 2022 made headlines, not just for the transfer itself but for the record-breaking salary that crowned him the world’s highest-paid athlete – a title he’s maintained for three consecutive years.

While his personal stats in Saudi Arabia are impressive, 93 goals in 105 appearances, team success has been more elusive. Since his arrival, Al Nassr have only managed to capture the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023. In league play, they finished second in both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons and dropped to third last term.

Despite the club-level frustrations, Ronaldo continues to make history with his national team. Earlier this month, he added another trophy to his international cabinet by scoring in the Nations League final against Spain.

“I have many titles with clubs, but nothing is better than winning for Portugal,” he said after the final whistle.

Speaking after penning his new deal, he added: “The ambition I feel has no finish line. It is consistency, commitment, and collective work that will make us better. And that is the task I am here for. We are starting a new chapter!”

Ronaldo’s career tally currently stands at 932 goals – 794 in club football and 138 for Portugal. With this new contract, he edges closer to the 1000-goal mark, a feat that would further cement his legendary status in world football.

Rather than accept an offer to participate in the Club World Cup with a different team, Ronaldo opted to focus on pre-season preparations with Al Nassr. His decision aligns with changes at the club, as they announced the departure of head coach Stefano Pioli after less than a year in charge.
